Keeping Your Residential Elevator Clean

Like your home, the elevator also needs to be clean and disinfected weekly or daily. Many people use the residential elevator in a day, so it needs to be disinfected and clean properly. If you regularly use the same elevator, then there might be a chance that you get infected or develop a disease.

Bacteria on the residential and commercial elevator is 40% more than a public toilet seat. We may be only in an elevator for a few seconds, but when we touch the call button, bacteria get transferred and cause illness. The better way to prevent any bacteria and germs is to clean and disinfect the elevator thoroughly.

Tips for Cleaning your Residential Elevator

If 5-10 people use your residential elevator, then general cleaning agents used in your home can be used in cleaning elevators. If more than ten people use your elevator, it’s better to contact your elevator company in Vancouver for more guidelines and then start cleaning your elevator.

What Cleaning Product To Use?

You can use polishes, dusting soaps, and disinfectants to clean the surfaces of the residential elevator. Keep on dusting regularly so dirt won’t accumulate on the surface of button panels or handles.

Cleaning and disinfecting are different processes. In cleaning, you require soap or detergent to wash the surface with water to remove germs. But disinfecting uses a chemical to remove germs. Disinfecting a surface won’t remove impurities, so you have to clean and disinfect the exterior to eradicate all kinds of contamination.

Steps To Fully Clean Your Elevator

First, you have to shut down the elevator to avoid any inconvenience to clean and disinfect properly. Then start dusting the door, walls, and button panel with a piece of cloth.  Now use soap or any cleaning agent and remove all the dirt and germs around the elevator.

To use the proper amount of soap or deterging agent, contact the elevator manufacturer and take his advice. Use their given user manual and use safe products. Take care while cleaning the electrical areas of your home elevator.

Be Safe

While cleaning button panel or electrical site don’t pour direct water always use a wet towel. You can use a paper towel or any material that is compatible with the surface. If your elevator has carpet, then vacuum the floors to remove dirt from the carpet surface. You can also wash the rug in the laundry and clean it with detergent and water.

Protect Yourself

Use gloves and a gown to prevent your skin from being in contact with any detergent or disinfecting agent. Wash your hands in between cleaning and avoid touching your face. Avoid getting germs and chemicals from touching your skin or your eyes.

Keep Your Elevator Clean

It is better to clean the elevator once or twice a week, but cleaning should be done daily to avoid any sickness if many people use your residential elevator. If you have skin allergies, it is better to hire a janitor to clean the elevator daily. Don’t start cleaning or disinfecting the elevator without the proper knowledge of the elevator and cleaning agents.
